Mr. Saumitra Kumar Roy
Saumitra Kumar Roy is a seasoned professional with over 33 years of exceptional experience in techno-commercial operations, project management, logistics, business development, across diverse industries. A strategic leader, he has demonstrated a consistent ability to drive efficiency, cost optimization, and organizational growth through innovative practices and meticulous execution. Currently serving as Advisor and Head of Operations at MCPI Pvt. Ltd., Kolkata, Mr. Roy oversees logistics, a food laboratory, and commercial projects. His pivotal contributions include enhancing operational performance and spearheading new initiatives aligned with industry best practices. Previously, as the Head of Projects & Investments at Marubeni India Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Marubeni Corporation, Japan, Mr. Roy led large-scale ventures, including an 880 MW hydropower project, and facilitated strategic investments in the Indian market. His role involved managing multi-million-dollar projects, trading raw materials, and delivering turnkey solutions for industrial setups. Mr. Roy also held leadership positions at Haldia Petrochemicals Ltd., where he drove procurement operations for business units with a turnover exceeding ₹12,000 crores (~$1.5 billion). He excelled in logistics, vessel chartering, port management, and the integration of IT-enabled platforms for procurement and materials management. An alumnus of IIM Bangalore, IIT Madras, and IIT Bombay, Mr. Roy’s academic credentials complement his professional acumen, blending technical expertise with strategic management. Successfully implemented organizational cultural transformational initiatives and leadership in change management in TATA group and multiple private sector iron and steel industries including Aarti Steels Ltd and Shyam Metalics Group of Cos.
- Successfully implemented multiple cost reduction initiatives, reducing wastes in many corporates,formulating ST and LT plans strategies and deployment. review these targets against ABP across all functions, sustainable value creation adding to bottom line.
